A big focus for Joshua is explaining procedures in language patients understand, and for children especially, making trips to the dentist as much fun as possible.
“I want to explain what’s happening in a patient’s mouth before we start. This is especially important for children. So I’ll say things like ‘local anaesthetic is sleepy juice for the tooth.’
I tell kids ‘you have sugar germs that have caused a hole in your tooth but it’s OK as we can fill it.'”
After a brief career in physiotherapy, Josh changed tack to study dentistry and graduated from Sydney University in 2011. He instantly found his new career very rewarding. Josh loves the sheer variety of dental work and that he’s in control of the treatment all the way through.
“With dentistry, you can take x-rays, you can diagnose, you can repair teeth and you can make a real difference to people’s lives. And for complex cases we have all the trusted dental specialists we need right here in the Dee Why Dental Hub, so I can keep control of my patients’ health every step of the way.”
Josh really enjoys the family nature of Oaks Avenue Dental Practice, especially working with children. Josh is married, has two young children and enjoys spending time with his family and making the most of the beautiful Northern Beaches.
